AAFC shakes hands with OCRI-CAAS

  On November 13, 2017, Dr. Javier Gracia-Garza, Director General of Science and Technology Branch of Agriculture and Agri-food Canada (AAFC) visited the Oil Crops Research Institute of Chinese Agricultural Academy of Sciences (OCRI-CAAS), Wuhan, China. Dr. Boshou Liao, General Director, Dr. Xuekun Zhang, Deputy Director of OCRI welcomed the delegation and had a panel discussion for international cooperation on rapeseed genetic improvement.

  Dr. Liao reviewed his meeting with Dr. Garza in AAFC this September as well as the agreement signed in Ottawa, briefly introduced OCRI and strategies for oil crop industry development in China. Four experts from OCRI presented achievements and progress on oil crops genetic improvement, functional genomic studying, high oil-content germplasm enhancement, processing and nutritional analysis. Dr. Garza described the overall research status of oil crops in Canada, especially international collaboration activities and progress with China on rapeseed genomic sequencing, genetic improvement and production technology application. Both sides generally agreed to promote the implementation of the September agreement, including building the Sino-Canadian joint laboratory for genetic improvement and utilization of canola.
